Going Green

I've been emersing myself in more and more 'green' stuff recently and have also been reaping the rewards of growing my own veg. In Winchester Discovery Centre there was a dedicated table set out for green books. I picked up 'How many light bulbs does it take to change a planet?' by Tony Juniper. So far I'm enjoying it.. I'll deliver some more critique when it's finished.

On another note the company I work for have also been investing some time in being green. Mainly from a cost saving point of view but also partly to help towards lowering their carbon footprint. One of the very clever dev guys created a system for waking up our computers remotely. The PCs now go to sleep after 20 mins of none use. By simply logging on to a secure site we can now wake them up and work remotely. A lot of the work I do is remote from the office so this is a great way of saving money and energy. All of our machines used to sit on each night and over the weekend. Now we sleep them all. The difference was incredible. It was very noticeable in the heat of the office in the morning. http://blogs.imeta.co.uk/nrees/archive/2008/08/04/315.aspx

I've also been out and about in Hampshire taking some photos of nature, the countryside and places of interest. I've set up a Flickr SET (http://www.flickr.com/photos/rob_lambert/sets/72157622169452906/), so check back regularly (or RSS feed it) as I will be posting quite often.

It's also been harvest time in the garden and I now have a bumper crop of parsnips. Some awesome soups ahead.
