Since calculating our carbon footprint in November we have changed our 10year old diesel Peugeot for a year old diesel Ford Fiesta, 110 emissions rate, average 67mpg. We have increased the number of low energy light bulbs in the house. We have made a decision not to fly again, unless for an emergency. We have just returned from a railway holiday to Italy.

Measures to be taken in the next 12 months to reduce footprint
We will try to improve draught proofing in our house We hope to buy a more efficient freezer or fridge/freezer

Any other comments
We are uncertain about the recommendation in our action plan to buy a dishwasher. There are usually only two of us in the household, and we are very careful about the number of times we wash up and the amount of water we use. We consider on balance it is still more efficient for us to wash up by hand.

As we have no premises or full-time staff, we have entered a zero carbon footprint. We will look at ways of calculating a real value.

The reason for this reduction is that we have decided to take our holiday in the UK this year - walking Offas Dyke - instead of flying off somewhere.

We are looking at changing our car in the future, funds permitting, as although we only run one car as my husband walks to work, it is one area where our carbon footprint could be drastically reduced.

Switched to Good Energy - every kwh I use is replaced by a renewable (wind/turbine/solar) kwh generated by Good Energy. My electricity produces no CO2, but unfortunately the Act on CO2 calculator ignores this so the 6.5 tonnes figure is too high. I have increased the amount of time I work from home to 4 days a week. We own but no longer use a tumble-drier (anybody want one?). 90% of travel to school/village/church is on foot or bike.

Measures to be taken in the next 12 months to reduce footprint
Installing solar thermal to reduce heating footprint. Reducing to one-car family - car will generally only be used at the weekends. I will carpool when I commute to work. Dishwasher will be used at weekends only. On weekdays, we don't have so much to clean and can do it by hand easily enough.
