As funds permit we intend to replace old medium size car with low carbon small car, and increase use of public transport, car share and bicycles. We will replace our combi boiler with a condenser boiler plus as funds permit we would like to add solar panels to our roof for both water heating and photovoltaic. We are going to switch to an energy provider with a decent green tariff.

I found that calculating my carbon footprint has empowered me to go the extra mile and really make a difference. Thank you!

N/A! - 2yrs ago had an eco-house built with low-energy lightbulbs throughout, GSHP, u/f heating, lots of insulation in walls, roof and under floor. Passive ventilation, new (wooden) double-glazed windows and doors. Also low-flush loos, small baths/no power shower, u/g rainwater storage tank. Many recycled/'green' materials used, eg lino, low-VOC paint, roof tiles, fencing, driveway, etc.

Use my car less, use bus or walk more. Change to ecotricity. Fly less after forthcoming trip to Peru! Grow yet more veg in my garden.

My carbon footprint is given as higher than it should be, as I use only electricity - but to power GSHP, not for storage radiators! U/f heating is not given as an option either - the calculator is designed for standard houses, not eco houses! I am already doing most things included in top tips. These should say (re water) 'fit low-flush loos when replacing them' , 'don't take more than one bath/shower per day' and 'don't wash hair more than twice a week'!!

Reduce heating (Increase jumpers), reduce water level in cisterns, reduce water temp, service boiler regularly, changed all bulbs to energy saving ones, nothing left on standby, installed water butt, growing own veg in raised beds, purchase local produce where possible, increased composting/recycling rates to 80-90% (waste bin only put out once a month and is usually half empty), walk to work, downsized car to smaller more efficient vehicle.

Measures to be taken in the next 12 months to reduce footprint
Having cavity wall insulation installed in new year, purchase new AAA rated washer and fridge-freezer, reduce waste produced by not buying in the first place, buy wood burning stove for lounge, looking at new LED lighting. Look at switching to green energy.
