Winchester Council has granted full planning permission for a new solar farm on land that makes up part of the Southwick Estate adjacent to Portsdown Hill. At 200 acres producing 40 Mw this will be one of the largest installations in the South and possibly to the UK. It will meet the power needs of 12000 homes ( twice Havant’s quota) and save 17k tonnes of carbon annually.
Giles Redpath CEO from Hive Energy, the operators, has agreed to give a talk on solar generally and the Southwick project in Emsworth on 29th January starting at 6.30 in the Crown Hotel Emsworth. Solar is moving ahead rapidly in most of our neighbouring authorities so Hive’s contribution is quite timely. You are warmly invited to come along and ask questions.
