Tim Jackson, Principal of Sparsholt College, was appointed a patron of Winchester Action on Climate Change (WinACC) at the local charity’s AGM last Saturday (October 2012), joining Professor Joy Carter, Vice Chancellor of the University of Winchester whose appointment was announced last month.

Tim is a graduate Applied Biologist who worked with the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food before training to teach in Further Education and becoming Principal of Sparsholt College in 1998.

Sustainability is already a core value and theme across all the Sparsholt College courses. Tim is keen to broaden the curriculum to include emerging occupations that are developing in environmentally sustainable technology.

WinACC Director Chris Holloway said “WinACC values its links with education and young people, and we try to base all our activities on solid intellectual foundations. So we are delighted that Tim is to join Joy as a WinACC patron. We hope to work together to develop local skills in the green economy”

Of his appointment Tim said “I am delighted to be invited to become a WinACC patron. I have attended several of their events and have been most impressed with their approach in considering the challenges facing our environment.”

WinACC was founded in October 2007 with the aim of cutting the yearly carbon footprint of Winchester District by 30 per cent between 2004 and the end of 2015.
