Dutton Gregory LLP hosted the launch of Carbon Smart Winchester on Wednesday 10 October at Holiday Inn Winchester.

The business breakfast saw over 30 delegates engage with environmental experts enabling them to get to grips on environmental and planning legislation whilst exploring the opportunities that Carbon Smart Winchester can bring for local businesses.

Business that attended discovered how taking pracitical action can help improve their business performance across a range of interesting topics, which ranged from staff engagement, how to unlock their marketing potential and engage with new suppliers, how to retain existing clients, building business credabilty and to top it all, how to gain local and national recognition they deserve for taking positive steps to improving  their environmental and business performance .

Carbon Smart Winchester was launched at the standing-room only seminar.  The free programme gives businesses a chance to calculate their carbon footprint, share best practice and to be given help and advice on how to make changes to improve their green credentials, and most importantly, their bottom line.

Debbie Clement, Head of Engagement at Carbon Smart is looking forward to working withWinchester’s committed businesses:

“This is a really exciting programme for local business, large or small, of any sector.  The principles are the same for any organisation – we will calculate a business’  carbon footprint, agree winning steps to help the business take positive action, providing guidance on local and national resources, help to create a winning environmental policy whilst get the business motivated and enjoying what they are doing. The difference is that Carbon Smart helps businesses through that process with practical advice that suits the individual organisation.”

The Carbon Smart team spend time learning about each business, and what their needs and aspirations are.  They recognise that every business is different with its own identity and therefore concentrate on the areas which are realistic and will make a real difference.  At the end of the programme, businesses will be presented with the Carbon Smart Winchester certification.

Cllr Robert Humby, Deputy Leader of Winchester City Council is pleased to be supporting the programme:

“Our top priority is for economic prosperity, and the Carbon Smart Winchester programme will help businesses to make savings and efficiencies, with the added bonus of a decreased impact on the environment.  It makes good business sense to become certified, and best of all, its free for every business as Winchester City Council has invested in the programme.”

The launch event at Holiday Inn Winchester was a great success, with speakers including Derek Taylor from Kirton Farm Nurseries giving the benefit of his experience, and the hotel itself outlining the steps it has made to become an environmentally friendly business.  The event was led by Matt Gilks, Solicitor at Dutton Gregory LLP who said:

“'I was pleased with a full house for an exciting event which reinforced Dutton Gregory's confidence that there is enormous potential for partnership and business success in the Green Economy."
