The developers Cala Homes invite people to their open day on Thursday 31 January 2013 from 12 to 19:30 at Winchester Guildhall.

They aim to inform and update the local community on their plans, set out a timetable for the development and offer the chance to meet and question their project team. More at Cala Homes website.

In case you are looking for tips about what to say, WinACC's three main points are:

1. The development should make best use of latest technology to create buildings which use as little energy as possible, with renewable heat and electricity.

2. Housing mustn't sprawl out; terraces save heating, and create streets that people enjoy walking through.

3. The design of the development and of public transport must provide real alternatives to the car and encourage people to walk and cycle between Barton Farm and the rest of Winchester, and within the new development.

WinACC and the City of Winchester Trust have been developing a shared position on all new developments, including Barton Farm, to create a sustainable Winchester in 2020 and beyond. See links to previous joint work on Barton Farm.
