Mary ClearLocal charity, Winchester Action on Climate Change, is hosting a talk by Mary Clear, one of the founder members of Incredible Edible on Saturday 5 April at St Lawrence parish hall, about how to start a community food growing project.

Mary will talk about the internationally successful movement and the events that took place in Todmorden, Yorkshire where the whole community were inspired to grow their own food in different places around the town. Potatoes growing outside the police station and herbs on the train platforms!

Susie Phillips, part of the food action group for WinACC, said, “This should be inspiring stuff. We want to get Winchester communities growing food together in the next year and we want to learn from the best. Growing your own food is a great way to reduce your carbon footprint and combat climate change. So if you have an interest in getting your neighbours growing carrots and spuds together, come and find out more - it is free of charge”.

Director, Shafi Hussein, commented: "The provenance of what we choose to eat is immensely important, and The Balaka is pleased to help bring together local people to understand more about choosing the important, local option."

The talk will start at 10.30am in St Lawrence parish hall, Colebrook Street, Winchester, SO23 9LH and refreshments will start from 10am. Be sure to book your place at events@winacc.org.uk
