Winchester Action on Climate Change elected Liz Harris and Bob Whitmarsh as new trustees at the AGM on the 1st October.

Liz Harris

Liz Harris is the Environmental Projects Assistant at the University of Winchester and leads on student and staff engagement in green travel, recycling, energy-saving initiatives and campus biodiversity. She also co-ordinates the University's Green Impact and Student Switch Off programmes.

Working for one the largest employers in Winchester committed to reducing its carbon footprint, Liz plays a key role in encouraging behaviour change and is passionate about finding ways to connect with people on environmental issues. 

Prior to joining the University, Liz worked for the RSPB advising the mineral industry on habitat restoration in quarries across England and Wales - from floodplain meadows in Oxfordshire to upland heathland in Durham - and looked at the importance of landscape-scale conservation in providing a response to the challenges of climate change.

 Liz holds a First Class Honours degree in Environmental Science from Plymouth University and is an Associate of the Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment.

Bob Whitmarsh

Bob Whitmarsh

Bob Whitmarsh  has been involved in WinACC from the start in 2007. He recently stepped down as Chairman of the Science and Technology Advisory Panel and member of its Strategy & Policy Committee and remains a member of the Renewable Energy Action Group.

Bob has written and lectured extensively on climate change and saving energy in the home for WinACC, and elsewhere, including annual reports on Winchester District’s emissions for Winchester City Council.

After obtaining a Ph.D. in marine geophysics at Cambridge University Bob worked as a research scientist for 34 years leading research projects and expeditions at sea with scientists from UK and abroad.
