We're a fast-growing and effective network of local people, businesses and organisations working together to transform Winchester into a low carbon district. We have a positive vision for the future - low energy bills, healthy lifestyles, strong communities – with a target to reduce CO2 emissions by one-third by 2015. Together we will achieve this: become a WinACC member today to play your part.

WinACC AGM and trustee elections

WinACC held its first ever AGM on 23 November 2009. There were elections for the two trustees who represent individual/household members. Of 135 members entitled to vote, 30 voted as follows: Robert Hutchison 29 votes; David Knight 15 votes; James Martin-Jones 15 votes. Robert Hutchison was therefore re-elected. It was decided by lot that David Knight was elected. James Martin-Jones was then co-opted. Full list of trustees under "About Us".

The AGM was followed by a reception for WinACC members. Many thanks to architecture plb who provided local wine and apple juice, many WinACCers who provided the food, and Anna MacPhail who co-ordinated the volunteers and the food.

Show support for agreement in Copenhagen

Negotiators have warned that they are "abandoning hope" of a legal global climate change treaty at the crucial climate summit in Copenhagen next month. But don't think this means we should give up. We can still get a strong and fair international agreement by politicians, with the legal stuff to follow.

Gordon Brown needs to get a powerful message that we don't want him to give up. We need him to do all that he can to bring home a fair, ambitious and binding deal. We are asked to sign a petition to Gordon Brown to do all he can on http://www.38degrees.org.uk/copenhagen

If all UK drivers reduced their driving by 5 miles a week we could save 2.7 million tonnes of CO2 per year.

20:12 Winchester's 20% Carbon Challenge

The Board of the Winchester District Strategic Partnership (WDSP) has committed the WDSP to achieving a 20 per cent reduction in greenhouse gas emissions in the district over the three years to March 2012.

This is a very ambitious target partly because, while a majority of the population say that they are concerned about climate change, many people are cynical or resigned about the issue.

10:10

Cutting 10% in one year is a bold target, but for most of us it’s an achievable one.

Low Carbon Procurement (buying)

On 9 October, the Winchester District Strategic Partnership (WDSP) organised a seminar for public and private sector organisations to learn more about how to take carbon emissions into account in their procurement - in other words, in deciding what to buy. The presentations from the workshop are on the WDSP website at http://www.wdsp.co.uk/board/strategic_outcome_groups/high_quality_environment/carbon_sensitive_procurement_seminar/
